BACKGROUND & HISTORY: Ignacio had always been a fey boy. So that, one day, at the age of fifteen, when he got into a terrible argument with his father, it was never certain among the family whether it was because he was a maricon or because he was a brujo. He was kicked out of the home and was instead invited to stay with his maternal grandmother, Delfia.
Delfina, on the other hand, gave Ignacio one piece of wise advice: if he was going to sleep with boys, only sleep with the kind ones. Before you go to bed with a man, spill hot coffee on his shoes. That way, you will know how he acts when he loses his temper.
Ignacio lives by this advice. He watches other people carefully. To suss out what kind of people they are. He watches them to make sure he never has to deal with someone like his father again.
He's had a rough life, growing up in a poorer section of Miami with a large number of Cuban immigrants. In the past, he'd fallen in with the wrong crowds, as a way of protecting himself, but now he sees how foolish that was, and he's certain to never sell his time or opinions out now to others in the hopes that it will get him protected or treated well. He will say to people that he has been knocked down a thousand times, but he always gets up stronger and smarter.
He has no education past high school and two semesters of community college. When he was nineteen, he discovered how he could use the magic that he keeps as hidden as possible to make potions and since left college and Florida to travel, funding his experiences with the money he makes selling his magic both as a street drug and as 'homeopathic' medicine and such. Not nomadic, exactly, but he never stayed in one place for more than a few years, slowly working up the East coast.
Ignacio's travels have just taken him as far as he can go before going in another direction -- Maine.
PERSONALITY: Ignacio knows how to keep himself ahead of the game, even if this means delving into illegal activities. He's able to justify his sale of magic and his lying about it to himself as protecting what he has. Because of his abusive father, he is often suspicious of others at first, and the ways in which they might take from him or people he loves or otherwise damage them. Providing is a huge weight for Ignacio, because his parents provided so poorly for him, not just in material needs but in love. Because he's always needed to find a way to make more money, he is an opportunist, an innovative problem-solver with a multi-talented nature. Some of which requires him to disregard 'the rules,' whatever those are, when it's expedient. Not because he's a bad person, or because he wants to be a rule-breaker, but that alone -- that it can be expedient. If he could be personified by any animal, it would no doubt be a rat. Ignacio is aware. Ignacio likes rats.
Ignacio has a loud, charismatic personality. Growing up a minority of a minority -- a brown person, a child of immigrants, shunned even by his own community for his gender non-conforming and (for those that figured him out) his witchcraft, he has a dark, weary sense of humor, capable of biting and intelligent commentary about things which it would seem he wouldn't even pay the time of day to. He listens more than he speaks, when it matters.
Most importantly, Ignacio requires fun. An adrenalin addict, he feeds off stressful situations, and can be known to elevevate them for his own desires at times -- turning a verbal fight into something worse, or adding more risk to an already dangerous situation.
Although he has little patience when he considers others as wrongheaded, or ignorant (and shows next to no restraint in colorfully informing them so), he is, at heart, an optimist. He has standards, and they aren't arbitrary ones. Despite being for all intents and purposes a magical drug dealer, Ignacio is always conscious of the dangers involved in his activities, and does not allow their use without respect to those dangers, nor does he allow others to get involved in his business or his mess without informed consent and a belief that they can handle themselves.
When brought to task, mocked or disrespected, Ignacio will not allow himsel to be underestimated, and does not back down from a challenge he knows he can win, mental or physical.
Ignacio settles down in a place just long enough to start to feel too much like trouble is coming knocking on his door again, which means that he gets to know people hard and fast and falls in love the same way in relationships, and always with the knowledge that they'll probably be gone soon from his life.
OPINION OF THE RIVALRY: Ignacio just arrived in town, and doesn't have much information about the subject yet, largely because he hates rumors and likes to get information from as close to the horse's mouth as possible and make his own opinions. He's fiercely anti-assimilation and largely sees the rivalry as a new flavor of more of the same old colonialism bullshit. He could be persuaded to change his opinion if and when it becomes personal to him.
LIFESTYLE: Ignacio is neither rich or poor. Money for him comes unsteady, sometimes none at all and sometimes a huge flow at once. He works irregular low-paying jobs when he needs the more steady income, but mostly relies on his business of selling recreational 'drugs' and potions. He sets up shop where he lives like any other weird, witchy, homeopathic shop that sells crystals and tarot decks and candles that will encourage money to come your way. And when people start to catch on that his stuff actually works, he enjoys the money he can make before he decides there's too much attention on him, closes up shop, and moves on. Ignacio also supplements his income with webcam porn for both queer and straight audiences.
He's getting too old to hang out at the usual 'party' scenes and is starting to see those sorts of things as childish and pointless, but he still likes alternative clubs, live music, and other places where he can meet people and have fun and forget. Because of the way his magic works, he's always looking for new, powerful experiences and could be considered an adrenalin junkie as far as hobbies go. He'd like to go base jumping and he practices parkour, is what I'm saying.
Ignacio/Alice considers himself queer, as far as sexuality goes. He identifies as pansexual though he prefers people with masculine presentations usually, and although he defaults to masculine pronouns due mostly to the hassle of insisting on anything else, he is also fine with 'she' or 'they.' He does consider himself genderfluid/genderqueer.
POWERS & ABILITIES: Ignacio can produce potions. Not in the sense that he produces them by brewing them, but in the sense that they are created as substances from his body. If he chooses, Ignacio can force strong emotions out of his body in the form of a silvery-green liquid from his eyes, ears, wounds, etc. That substance contains that emotion, and if in contact with the skin or other membranes of another person, will cause that person to experience the physiological responses of that emotion, such as fear, love, pain, loneliness, etc. Because Ignacio can only produce these substances by manifesting them as a substance when he's experiencing them, he must experience the emotion being turned into a substance. He has limited control over the ability. He can force himself to relive an emotion from the past in order to consciously create a potion, or he can involuntarily produce the potions when he naturally experiences particularly strong emotions (which means that individuals around him when he experiences those emotions must be careful not to come in contact with the substance.)
This 'emotional residue' as he sometimes refers it to, can be dried into a powder and added to things such as tablets, face powders, drinks, etc., that can be consumed or otherwise applied to skin or other membranes.
